EMBO brought laboratory leadership course to Tartu

On March 12-15, 2024 the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) organized the course "EMBO Laboratory Leadership for Group Leaders" at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of Tartu.

The four full-day course was open to a limited number of participants, who had the possibility to explore their own approach to leadership – and hear the approaches of the other participants – and to use this to refine how they want to lead and manage their teams. Attendees were researchers of life sciences from Estonian universities and academic science institutions.

The course provided insight into how teams work best together and how to identify and resolve barriers to cooperation and progress. Throughout the course, the trainers gave tools, techniques and insight tailored specifically to the research setting for the management of teams, good communication, healthy resolution of conflict, and the management of workloads and responsibilities.

The format of the course was workshop style, including two coffee breaks and one-hour lunch break provided daily.
